A 31-year-old woman complained of bloody mucous stool. Recto-sigmoidoscopy revealed multiple elevated lesions in the rectum The biopsy showed marked hyperplasia of lymphoid follicules. Several tests for chlamydia infection were negative. Thirty-two months later, repeated biopsies revealed characteristic findings of MALT lymphoma, which contained marked infiltration of B lymphocytes, accompanied by lymphoepithelial lesions. Treatment with rituximab improved the patient's symptom and endoscopic findings. MALT lymphoma might be the correct diagnosis of such rectal lesions which used to be called“lymphoid follicular proctitis”.
