Case of primary malignant neoplasms of the jejunum and ileum reported in Japan during a ten year period, from 1970 to 1979, were reviewed.

 (1) Nunber of cases were as follows: Malignant lymphoma 259; carcinoma 221; leiomyosarcoma 176; carcionoid tumor nine; and miscellaneous tumors 13.

Distinguishing features of our results from American and European literature were that the frequency of carcinoid tumor cases was low and that the frequency of malignant lymphoma was higher than that of carcinoma.

 (2) Male female ratio for primary malignant neoplasms as a whole was 1.9 to 1, and suggested male preponderance. Sex ratios for each histologic type showed male preponderance except for the miscellaneous tumors.

 (3) Age distributiun: Percent frequency of the primary malignant neoplasms as a whole was high in the 5th, 6th, and 7th decade (18.8%, 21.1%, and 26.2%, respectively).

 (4) Size of the tumors: Tumor was smaller than 5cm in 40.4% of malignant lymphomas and in 57.4% of carcinomas. Tumor was 10cm or more in 25.2% of malignant lymphomas and in 7.4% of carcinomas.

 (5) Location of the tumors: Predilection site of malignant lymphoma was the terminal ileum. Site of predilection of carcinoma was the jejunum, especially the proximal segment of the jejunum nearthe Treitz's ligament. That of carcinoma in the ileum was the segment near the Bauhin's valve. Predilection site for leiomyosarcoma was suggested to be the jejunum.
