  • Look Inside

Genetic alterations in 24 cases of ulcerative-colitisassociated neoplasms were examined. High frequency of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) was observed in chromosome 17 (17p) (71%) and 8 (8p) (59%) . Alteration in the beta-catenin gene was not present among 14 lesions which could be analyzed. Among two lesions with invasive cancer, one lesion showed mutation in the APC gene. No biopsy specimens from the colonic mucosa of fourteen long-standing ulcerative colitis patients showed MSI.
