要旨　1999年（平成11年）4月の新しい感染症法の施行に関連して，消化管感染症の現況に変化が生じた．すなわち，コレラと細菌性赤痢の患者の入院期間が著明に短縮された．またコレラ，細菌性赤痢，腸チフス，パラチフスなどが食品衛生法の対象疾患として取り扱われるようになった．食中毒の届出に患者数1人の事例が急増したのも，感染症法施行の影響と考えられる．今後は感染症法と食品衛生法による消化管感染症の制御対策が，連携，融合する方向で行われることが期待される．

　The new Infectious Diseases Control Law has become effective from April, 1999 and, as a result, duration of hospitalization for cholera and bacillary dysenteriae has been significantly reduced. Also enteric diseases, such as cholera, bacillary dysenteriae and typhoid fever, are categorized as food-borne diseases. In relation to the above, significant increase of cases of single patients of food poisoning has been observed during the last several years.
