Endoscopy is an initial diagnostic workup recommended for patients with any positive findings on upper gastrointestinal(UGI)study in hospitals. However, false negatives(i. e., missing disease)can occur on endoscopic examination and cannot be disregarded. Efforts to reduce the number of false negatives and the establishment of appropriate intervals of screening considering the incidence and variety of gastric cancer based on the probability of occurrence of false negatives will be indispensable.
