Objective: To elucidate the relationship between ICT use and sleep patterns among older adults.

Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey on ICT usage, health, and living conditions was conducted among adults aged 65-84 years. In the analysis, daily ICT use was classified into two groups: those who used ICT for less than one hour and those who used it for more than one hour. The dependent variables were sleep duration and latency, and the odds ratios(ORs) of ICT use time for these variables were calculated after adjusting for the effects of multiple factors by using a logistic model.

Results: Of the 324 participants who completed the questionnaire survey, 202 provided information on ICT use time and were included in the analysis. Those who used ICT for more than one hour(compared to less than one hour) showed a marginally significant OR of 0.49(p = 0.051) for more than seven hours of sleep. No association was found between time spent using ICT and sleep latency.

Conclusion: ICT use exceeding one hour among older adults may be associated with decreased sleep duration.
