一般診療所はめまい患者の初期診療を担う医療機関として極めて重要な位置を占めているが，病因が多様なめまい疾患を診療所で的確に診断することは容易ではない．しかし，生理検査を適切に選択して効率的に検査を進めれば診療所でもめまいの初期診療は十分に可能である．重要なことは，最も頻度の高い良性発作性頭位めまい症を確実に診断するために頭位変換眼振検査をルーチンに行うことであり，その際に使用する検査機器として赤外線CCDカメラによる眼振記録装置は，診療所では最低限の必需品である．

The outpatient clinic should play an important role for dizziness and vertigo in primary care.　Although it may be difficult to diagnose the etiology of dizziness and vertigo exactly at a clinic, the primary care of dizziness and vertigo at an outpatient clinic can be carried out efficiently if an equilibrium examination is performed properly.　An important thing is performing a positioning test to routine tests in order to diagnose with certainity BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) using the highest frequency.　Also, nystagmus recording equipment using an infrared CCD camera is very useful for diagnosis of BPPV.
