　一般地域住民1,116名の右眼（男性590眼，女性526眼，年齢40〜80歳）に対して，スペキュラーマイクロスコープを用いて角膜中心厚（CCT）を測定した。CCT （平均値±SD）は男性0.518±0.032mm，女性0.511±0.032mmと男性で有意に厚かった（p＜0.001）。年齢群別平均値（±SD）（男性／女性）は40歳代0.521±0.032／0.515±0.037mm,50歳代0.522±0.029／0.510±0.033mm,60歳代0.516±0.031／0.514±0.030mm,70歳代0.514±0.034／0.506±0.028mmであった。CCTは男性において年齢と有意な負の相関を示し（p＜0.01），女性においても高年齢ほど薄い傾向であった（p＝0.10）。

We measured the central corneal thickness of the right eyes in 1,116 Japanese. They were randomly selected from the general population as a part of the Longitudinal Study of Aging program sponsored by the National Institute for Longevity Sciences. The series comprised 590 males and 526 females. Their ages ranged from 40 to 80 years. The central corneal thickness averaged 0.518±0.032 mm in males and 0.511±0.032 mm in females. The value was significantly greater in males than in females (p＜ 0.001) . In males, it averaged 0.521±0.032 mm in the fifth decade, 0.522±0.029 mm in the sixth, 0.516±0.031 mm in the seventh, and 0.514±0.034 mm in the eighth. In females, it averaged 0.515±0.037mm in the fifth decade, 0.510±0.033 mm in the sixth, 0.514±0.030 mm in the seventh, and 0.506±0.028 mm in the eighth. In males, the mean central corneal thickness significantly decreased with age (p＜0.01). A similar tendency was also present in females (p=0.10).
