Basal Iridectomy （英）とBasale Iridektomie （独）とは同じ意味ではない

Basal Iridectomy in English and Basale Iridektomie in German have Separate Meanings

　私はさき^1）2）に虹彩根部に切開を加えて，その際生ずる虹彩根部片を180°廻転させて鞏膜又は角膜切開創に巌頓させる手術法を虹彩根部嵌頓術basal iridencleisis又は周辺虹彩嵌頓術peripheral iridencleisisと称して発表した。即ちbasal iridencleisisとperipheraliridencleisisとを同意語とした。このbasal iriden-cleisisはStallard^3）の論文によつたのである。

　一般に対緑内障手術中の虹彩切除はGraefeが示した様に虹彩を瞳孔縁から根部までを，而も根部を広く切除するのが原則である（B図）。この場合は瞳孔は正円を得られないので視力は多少悪くなる。若し緑内障が軽く，瞳孔にかけないで虹彩の根部丈を切除してその目的が達するならば瞳孔は正円が保たれて視力も低下せずに済むのでよろしいのである（A図）。前述の周辺虹彩嵌頓術もこの意味に他ならない。ところが虹彩切除の場合basalの意味の取り方が独逸系（又はヨーロツパ系？）とアメリカ系では異なるのである。独逸のMellerの本^4）ではBasal Iridektomie nach Pflugerとして虹彩根部のみの切除を示している（A図）。

The "basal iridectomy" in English is a synonym of "total iridectomy", ,while "basale Iride-ktomie" in German is a synonym of "peripheral iridectomy". The "basal iridectomy" has different meanings according to the countries employing this term. Thus the author recommends to avoid an employment of this term in the description of glaucoma surgery. He considers that two terms, total and peripheral iridectomy, are satisfactory. He also refers to the terminology of iridencleisis and recommends likewise to discard the term "basal" and to employ the terms "total" and "peripheral" exclusively.
