はじめに

　脳血管撮影の普及にともない，従来記載をみなかつた，あるいはごくまれに解剖学的に報告されるにすぎなかつた脳血管の奇形ないし異型があいついでレ線学的に発見・報告されている。

　ここでは，われわれが最近経験した外頸動脈主幹の外側位（lateral position）の2症例について報告する。

Two cases of rare anomaly of the external carotid artery are reported. The external carotid artery in each case arose at a normal level but the posit-ion of its main trunk was dorsolateral instead of ventromedial to the internal carotid artery. The internal carotid arteries were normal. Branches of the malpositioned external carotid artery crossed the internal carotid, but the internal carotid showed no strangulation or constriction at the cross point.
