運動とサルコペニア

Transdisciplinary Approach for Sarcopenia. Physical activity and sarcopenia.

　高齢化社会にとって，サルコペニアは非常に重大な問題である。しかし，サルコペニアに対する疫学的知見は数少ない。そこで，われわれは，2005年よりサルコペニアを含む運動器疾患をターゲットとした大規模住民コホート研究ROADを立ち上げ，筋力，筋量の年代別性別値を確立するとともに，サルコペニアの有病率や，変形性関節症やその痛みとの関連，中年期の運動習慣との関連，さらには片足立ちやスクワット訓練がその予防に非常に効果的であることを明らかにした。

　With the goal of establishing epidemiologic indexes to evaluate the clinical evidence for developing a disease-modifying treatment of bone and joint diseases including sarcopenia, we set up a large-scale nationwide cohort study called ROAD（Research on Osteoarthritis/osteoporosis Against Disability）in 2005. We established muscle strength and volume indexes stratified according to gender and age strata. We also clarified the prevalence of sarcopenia and its association with osteoarthritis, pain, and exercise in middle-aged individuals. In addition, we showed that unipedal standing exercise and squatting are effective methods to prevent sarcopenia.
