An 86-year-old woman with no dementia was brought to our hospital suffering from left hip pain after a fall injury. A left femoral fracture was observed, and elective surgery was scheduled for the next day. At the anesthesiologist’s preoperative visit, an interview with the patient’s family revealed that the patient’s impaired consciousness was unusual. A head CT scan showed acute and chronic subdural hematoma. Emergency drainage for this hematoma was performed the same day. In the preoperative examination of elderly patients, it is imperative to interview close relatives regarding the patient’s daily consciousness level.
