Micro skin grafting (MG) using the RIGENERA Ⓡ system has emerged as a regenerative approach in plastic surgery wound management. The MG/ RIGENERA technique involves harvesting a small amount of autologous healthy tissue, mechanically disaggregating it into micrografts (approx. 80 μm), and suspending the micrografts in saline for application to the wound bed. Compared with conventional skin grafting, MG is characterized by reduced donor-site morbidity and a distinct mechanism of action, promoting wound healing through the induction of biological responses mediated by cytokines and growth factors rather than direct engraftment.

This minimally invasive procedure can be performed without strict postoperative immobilization, thereby facilitating the preservation of patientsʼ activities of daily living. It may therefore represent a useful therapeutic option for patients who are not suitable candidates for general anesthesia or in whom immobilization should be minimized.

This review summarizes the mechanisms, indications, and clinical applications of MG using the RIGENERA Ⓡ system and highlights its potential role in contemporary wound management strategies.
