はじめに

　頬部と顎下部の脂肪吸引は，患者からの需要が多い施術である。患者は指で頬を摘んで，「この脂肪を取ってください」と言う。患者は，それを脂肪だと信じている。

　脂肪吸引は物理的に脂肪を除去できる確実な方法であり，美容外科初心者にも行うことができる手術である。しかし，患者の訴えの原因が脂肪だけではないことも多く，その診断と治療には経験を必要とする。本稿では，脂肪吸引の方法と適応および合併症について述べる。

　We generally think itʼs easy to perform liposuction of cheeks and the submandibular area, but is this accurate? This procedure should be reconsidered, as it can be conducted in a better way. In some cases, liposuction can help lift up a patientʼs face or body site, but in other cases, liposuction can be disadvantageous. Skilled plastic surgeons must be able to discern whether liposuction is or is not appropriate in each case.
