「骨壊死」は，avascular necrosis，aseptic necrosisなど種々の名称で呼ばれる。また，同じ「骨壊死」と呼ばれる場合でも，局在などによっては異なった病態を示すため，混乱することが多い。このような骨・骨髄の変化を，非侵襲的かつ容易に画像として捉えることができるMRIは，骨壊死の診断の中心となっている。

Bone infarction is an avascular necrosis of metaphyseal or diaphyseal bone. Bone marrow necrosis is an entity distinct from avascular necrosis. In both situations, magnetic resonance imaging（MRI）is very sensitive in identifying and characterizing. This review illustrates the MRI features of bone infarction and bone marrow necrosis that enable a confident diagnosis to be made.
