History of the development of tomography was presented with special reference to rotation radiography and rotatory cross section radiography developed by Professor Shinji Takahashi. In 1946, he started to rese-arch the rotation radiography in Aomori city where was devastated by the defeat of the World War Ⅱ. He developed eight kinds of rotation radiography to take X-ray images of the transection of the subject. The principle of his work to take a cross section image was based on the reconstruction method from the sinograms on film, which was called rotatogram or rotation radiogram. P. Edholm termed a series of his researches Takahashi tomography as precursor of X-ray computed tomography in 1975. Later, a universal rotatography apparatus with the patient in decubitus position was also developed and used clinically both at home and internationally.
