 Aim: This study aims to clarify he process of acquiring and maintaining active lifelong learning followed by nursing school instructors.

 Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight nursing school instructors, each with over 11 years' teaching experience. The interviews were analyzed using a revised grounded theory approach.

 Results: The experience of “sharing the joy of learning with students” led to the action of “searches for their own educational activities”. In addition, “links with those around them” acquired the behavior of “self-directed learning with an awareness of their identities as nursing school instructors”. Then, the process of maintaining lifelong learning behavior was to transform “supporting others' self-fulfillment” into a self-supporting.

 Conclusions: It was suggested to be important of nursing school instructors to acquire and maintain lifelong learning behaviors: encountering supportive managers, encounter with colleagues inside and outside the organization, without their organizations and fulfilling personal lives.
