[Abstract]

This qualitative study described how the elderly were influenced by chemotherapy treatment. Data consisted of field notes derived from observation and interviews with participating patients and caregivers. The sample was 8 patients who were over 65 years of age, both male and female, and received chemotherapy for hematopoietic system tumors. In the results, physical concurrent symptoms that are related to each other and do not have the same etiology, were present as symptom clusters in this study. Although the chemotherapy treatments were quantification or reduction and the degree of distress were correlated, it was impossible to judge the effective response. In psychological influence, the recovery process consisted of 5 stages. The stages indicated that patients experience psychological growth over time and it was possible to reach self realization.
