【Purpose】 The purpose of the present study was to clarify the correlation between stress and work experience related to COVID-19 in caregivers/nurses working at special elderly nursing homes.
【Methods】 A questionnaire survey was administered to 1,125 caregivers/nurses working at special elderly nursing homes in Niigata Prefecture. Basic attributes, 36 items concerning COVID-19-related work experience, and the Japanese version of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) were surveyed, and the correlation between each was statistically analyzed.
【Results】 Caregivers, regular employees, and shift workers had a high degree of stress, and stress and work experience during the previous month were correlated with increased workload, increased financial burden, and confusion due to overload of information concerning COVID-19.
【Conclusion】 During the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary not only to secure human resources to compensate for the lack of manpower, but also under the direct guidance and cooperation of experts, to establish practical infection control measures suitable for each facility and support that leads to the improvement of the mental health of the staff.
