 This study was conducted to clarify management recognition of mental burdens on staff regarding end-of-life nursing-home care and related correspondence. It involved a free-response self-reported questionnaire survey in which 130 administrators of nursing homes registered as National Council for Elderly Welfare Facilities were invited to participate. The free responses were converted to data and subjected to weighed text analysis. The results were classified into nine groups based on semantic content: 1) understanding and sharing of mental burdens; 2) contact for accurate state prediction for night shift care worker; 3) expression of future possibilities; 4) utilization of multi-occupation collaboration and conferencing; 5) discussion for peace of mind; 6) appreciation of a feeling of achievement; 7) education to accept human death; 8) understanding of medical care and checking of doctors' instructions ; and 9) explain and collaborate with the end to follow the intention of the family. The results supported those of previous research, and are expected to support managers of nationwide facilities in the promotion of nursing care.
