We quantitatively analyzed the relationship between the patterns of searched trajectories in cancellation tasks and their efficiency in brain damaged patients and age-matched healthy subjects using the Mark's method (Mark VW, 2004). As is widely known, the searched trajectories were classified into 3 patterns: vertical-type, horizontal-type and mixed-type. Subjects classified as vertical-type and horizontal-type scored much higher in the search efficiency than mixed-type subjects. Several factors such as deficit in executive function or disability to detect targets were suspected of causing the mixed-type patterns. By quantifying a qualitative result, a comparison among quantitative results became possible. We are continuing to analyze the correlations between the results and behavior of brain damaged patients.
