The purpose of this study was to examine the difficulties with activities of daily living experienced by frail elderly individuals. We developed a questionnaire based on item 48 in the "activities and participation" section of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) checklist, and conducted a survey on frail community dwelling elderly individuals who use a day care center. From among 350 elderly individuals to whom the questionnaire was distributed, complete responses received from 168 individuals were analyzed. The activities of daily living in which more than 60% of respondents had difficulty were "Walking" (83.9%), "Lifting and carrying objects" (82.1%), "Undertaking multiple tasks" (72.6%) and "Fine hand use" (60.7%). Moreover, difficulties in activities of daily living differed according to each individual's age, sex, disability and degree of required care.
