The development of dementia prevention programs is in wide demand. We are currently working on the "Ikoi no Salon" (Recreational Salon) project, a dementia intervention study, which focuses on psychosocial factors and is based on the population health approach. This paper presents our hypotheses regarding intervention theory, together with the evaluation results of the midterm outcomes eight months after the beginning of the study. The participants are 40 volunteer staff members of the Recreational Salon and 33 salon users. The midterm outcomes showed an increase in positive awareness among both staff members and salon users. For staff members, results showed an increase in the number of companions (60.0% to 87.5%) and a sense of contributing to the well-being of others (57.9% to 82.5%). Among salon users, the outcomes show an increase in the number of companions (42.4% to 90.9%) and an increase in shared activities with friends (35.5% to 69.1%). The outcomes also show a 70% increase in the giving and receiving of emotional and informational support among all the participants. The evaluation suggests that the study is producing the anticipated positive psychosocial changes.
