In order to find out distinctive features of continuance of playing behaviors exhibited by a normal infant, "N" was given a toy telephone, and was videotaped for ten minutes every three months, from six to 18 months old.

The mean length of continuance time of her toy-related behaviors, which were defined as whether the toy was watched, or was in physical contact, showed the tendency to get longer, as N grew up. The features below were found in her behavior at any age. Total time of all toy-related-behaviors formed about one quarter or half of the whole play period. The toy-related behavior was, at longest, 30〜120 seconds, with one exception. Although in the longer toy-related behaviors, the ratio of concentrated time was larger than in the short ones, many short, distracting behaviors were also observed in them. In her toy-related performance, she usually changed her target part of the toy, or her way of working, every 1〜4 seconds. The continuance exhibited by N's toy-related-behavior was proven to be not developed enough, from age 6 to 18 months.
