The purposes of this study were to examine the superiority of dominant-hand functions of bimanual activities, so called 'texture', and to study the level of dementia in female elderly with Alzheimer disease (AD). Twenty subjects with AD (ADgroup) and20 without AD (controlgroup) in a facility of health care services for the elderly participated in this study. The results were as follows : cTotal quantity of the activity showed no significant difference in the AD and control group. (2) All subjects in the control group showed a dominant hand > non-dominant (p<0.01) quantity of activity. (3) 9 out of 20 in the AD group showed a non-dominant hand> dominant hand (p<0.05). (4) 9 AD subjects showed a severe level of dementia (p<0.01) when we analyzed the sub-items of CDR. These findings suggest that the non-dominant hand function will give us a key point for the study of the progression of dementia.
