People suffering from post-stroke depression (PSD) have to accept their disability and construct a new sense of values and lifestyles while maintaining the status quo.

Previously, occupational therapy for depressed patients consisted of treatment using "unfamiliar activities," but occupational therapy has advanced through using a "familiar activity" such as calligraphy. This has resulted in patients' acceptance of their condition, and encouraged them to construct a new lifestyle.
