Is the"Sodium theory"applicable also to medullated nerve fibers?

　1．Na説について

　Na説の有髄神経線維に対する適用の可否について論ずる前に，先ず「Na説」について簡単に述べる事が必要であろう。

　いま「神経及び筋細胞の活動時にNaイオンの出入が増す──Naイオンに対するそれ等の細胞膜の透過性が一時的に増大する──事が活動電位発生の根本現象である」と言うのがNa説の骨子と考えるならば，既にOvertonの時代にその端を発し^1），Bernsteinの膜説も重要な基礎になつたと思われる^2）。

　Structural features of the medullated nerve fiber, i. e., active membrane exposed only at Ranvier's nodes and internodes covered with highly resistent myelin sheath, enable us to make an electrophysiological approach under simplified conditions. On the other hand, be-cause of the small size of the fiber, the insertion of microelectrodes seems almost always to injure its functional integrity.
