The purpose of this study was to describe nursing practice in a pediatric ward and to identify the difficulty on these activities. This qualitative study was used with participant observation and interviews.

Nurses shaped the pediatric ward environment and performed care with the following considerations : ward structure, nursing performance, changes associated with growth and development, and difficulties in gaining patient appreciation. Based on Goffman's sociological view, this phenomenon is interpreted that nursing care under these conditions was involved front-stage interactions among nurses as well as between nurses and children and their families. Nurses were expected to fulfill expectations required of them by other nurses, children, and their families.
