　血小板のレファレンスコントロールを作製するには，通常グルタルアルデヒドを用いているが，血小板の膜を化学的に交差結合する物質により強くすることが必要である．この反応は血小板をプラスチックの，あるいはガラスの表面に強く吸着させる．市販されているレファレンスコントロール物質を調べると，計算容器への（血小板の）吸着が示された．表面活性剤は吸着を阻止するが，大きさを有意に減少させる原因となる．ポリエチレングリコールが（測定機器の）伝導度を変えることなしに，吸着を阻止することが出来る．

Preparation of platelet reference controls requires that the platelet membranes be strengthened by chemical cross-linking^*1, usually with glutaraldehyde. The reaction produces a platelet which is strongly adsorbed to plastic and glass surfaces. Tests of commercially available^*2 reference controls indicate adsorption to the counting containers. Surfactants inhibit adsorption but cause an apparent^*3 decrease in size. Polyethylene glycol can eliminate adsorption without altering conductivity.
