Two cases of labyrinthine fistulae due to extensive cholesteatoma resulted in remarkable improvement of bone conduction (more than 30dB) by ear surgery. In each case, a fistula of more than two millimeters in length was found at the lateral semicircular canal and membraneous labyrinthine wall was exposed when the cholesteatoma membrane was removed.
The literature was reviewed, and the mechanism of the improvement of bone conduction in these cases was discussed.
