  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

1. In invertebrates, the epithelial endocrine glands are poorly developed and most of the endocrinephenomena are achieved by neurosecretion. In vertebrates, both the epithelial endocrine glands and the neurosecretory system are well developed. In particular, there is a predominant evolution of epithelial endocrine glands concerned with energy metabolism. These glands will have evolved with the higher locomotor activity of vertebrate animals.

2. Neurosecretory cells are concentrated in the brain in vertebrates, while they are found in the brain and other ganglia in invertebrates.
