Abstract
Recent advances in understanding site and structure of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), its specific functional selection for transport, and their ontogenic development are described in this paper.
The capillary wall in other organs than the brain is surrounded by leaky porous endothelia, from where the plasma content extravasates into the surrounding connective tissue stroma and drains via lymphatic vessels into the venous flow.
