Abstract

The ependymal cell is a kind of epithelium which usually has a cuboidal form and covers the ventricular surface of the central nervous system (CNS) as well as that of the choroid plexus. As it is a remnant of the neural tube cell which was the source of nerve and glia cells during the early developmental stage, its role in the later stage has been considered less important. However, the recent application of new experi-mental approaches has brought about a reevalua-tion of not only the cell itself but also the whole structure constituting the wall of the ventricular system.
