Acute polyradiculoneuropathy associated with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection

　mycoplasma pneumoniaeは現在では原発性異型肺炎の病原体であることが確立しているが，その発見の端緒となったのは，1944年Eatonらが原発性異型肺炎の患者から初めて一つの病原体を取り出して，それをラット，ハムスター，鶏胚に移すことに成功したことに始まる。当時の異型という意味は，肺炎球菌によるlobarconsolidationを示す典型的肺炎に対し，気管支肺炎の型をとるものの意味であったようである（Levine ＆ Lerner，1978）。当時の異型肺炎患者の中に寒冷凝集素価の上昇を示すグループのあることがPetersonら（1943）により見出され，その中からEatonらが病原体を発見した。この病原体はその後しばらくEaton agentと呼ばれたが，このagentは直径400〜483muの細孔を持つコロジオン膜を通過するので最初はウイルスと考えられていたようである（Eatonら，1944）。

　Three cases of acute polyradiculoneuropathy associatcd with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection were described and its pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment were discussed.

　The first ease was a 58 year old man who had an onset of fever and cough on August 22, 1976. Ten days later he noted tingling in hands and feet, which was followed by acute generalized weakness, dyspnea and difficulty of urination. On admission, moist rales were heard in the left lower lung field.
