Experimental model of epilepsy

　てんかん発作は，その代表的なものとして，突然の意識喪失と全身けいれんをきたす大発作のほか，身体の部分的な過活動や，ほんの数秒間の意識混濁—欠神をきたす小発作まで，非常に多くの臨床発作型が知られており，それらの詳細な分類がなされている。しかし，われわれが動物の実験モデルを用いて，てんかん発作について研究を行なう場合には，けいれんなどの運動系の変動を指標とするのが通例である。したがって，ここでは，主として，けいれんを指標として，てんかんモデルを紹介していきたい。

　1. Epileptogenic focus induced by topical convulsant

　1) Alumina cream

　Kopeloff prepared alumina cream by treating ammonium alum with dilute ammonium hydroxide, topically applied on the cortex of the monkey and observed spontaneous clinical seizures. We can use also aluminum hydroxide gel, i.e. alumin hydroxide gel, washed by saline solution and autoclaved, is injected into the sensory motor cortex of monkey, cat or rat with a small syringe to produce a minimally detectable bolus. Spontaneous convulsions appear after a variable delay, usually 1~2 months.
