  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Dopamine-synthesizing enzymes, neurotrophic factors, and differentiation factors for dopaminergic neurons are candidates for gene-therapy of Parkinson's disease. Recently, many researchers have been exploring methods to generate dopaminergic neurons from neural stem cells or embryonic stem cells (ES cells), in order to transplant them into the brain of patients with Parkinson's disease. Forced expression of Nurrl in neural-stem cells has been reported to promote their differentiation into dopaminergic neurons. For finding new and effective genes for gene-therapy of Parkinson's disease, it would be important to reveal molecular mechanism of Nurrl on differentiation from neural-stem cells into dopaminergic neurons.
