  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Working memory is a brain system that is critical for various cognitive operations, in particular, thinking, and dorsolateral areas of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) play a major role in this cognitive function. Several studies of working memory at the cellular level in the PFC have used delayed-response paradigms, and Funahashi and Kubota (1994) proposed a neuronal model for working memory processes based on the data of such studies. They insisted that the PFC contains input, mnemonic and output modules that represent a series of working memory processes.
