  • Look Inside

In this paper, we reviewed the involvement of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species in Parkinson's disease and its animal models, and in the therapeutic drugs for Parkinson's disease. Dopaminergic neurotoxins, MPTP and 6-hydroxydopamine, which produce animal models of Parkinson's disease, induce production of reactive oxygen species through inhibition of mitochondrial respiratory enzymes and autoxidation, respectively, to lead neurotoxicityin dopaminergic neurons.
