  • Look Inside

Nociceptive information is an input which is essential in the production of pain sensations in humans. However, nociceptive input is not a pain sensation itself. This nociceptive input must be integrated within the central nervous system for pain to occur. Many acute animal studies have been conducted to help determine how nociceptive information carried on peripheral nerves is integrated in the central nervous system. Many of these studies have shown that nociceptive information produced in peripheral nerves is modulated in the spinal cord, thalamus, cerebral cortex and in many parts of limbic system.
