はじめに

　神経系の発生分化は神経回路網の形成に象徴される。また，神経系の中心的機能である情報伝達および情報の保持は，神経回路網の形成により可能になる。神経回路網は中枢神経系における神経細胞どうしのシナプス形成，さらに神経細胞が筋肉などの標的器官や視細胞などの感覚器官とシナプス形成を行うことにより完成する。このようなシナプスを形成するために，神経細胞は発生期に軸索や，樹状突起などの神経突起を伸展させる。これまでに，神経突起を伸展させるメカニズムが数多くの研究によって解明されてきているが，主に液性因子である神経栄養因子，細胞外環境を構成する細胞外基質さらに，細胞表面に発現している細胞接着因子などにより神経の突起の伸展が制御されていると考えられる^2,4）。

In the nervous system, cell adhesion molecules play an important role in differentiation of neurons, neural network formation and further more in synaptic plasticity. Neurite Outgrowth Factor (NOF) is a laminin family and markedly promotes neurite outgrowth from several neurons. Gicerin was found as a receptor for NOF. We found by cDNA cloning that gicerin is a novel cell adhesion molecule which belongs to immunogloblin (Ig) superfamily.
