  • Look Inside

Intercellular signals allow each cell to determine its position and a specific role, resulting in regulation of development and maintenance of nervous system. There are two mechanism that animal cells communicate with one another : 1) signaling by secreted molecules and 2) signaling by membrane-bound molecules. Cell adhesion proteins mediate intercellular signalings as membrane-bound molecules. Accumulated evidence indicates that cell adhesion proteins express and function in spatially and temporally defined stages of development or regeneration of the nervous system.
