  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

I have investigated the possibility that non β components are present in cerebrovascular amyloid (CVA) and senile plaque amyloid, using specific antisera raised against partially purified CVA.

CVA-enriched fractions were obtained from an Alzheimer's disease brain by differential centrifugations, Sarkosyl treatment, density gradient centrifugation and collagenase treatment. The major contaminants were found to be fragments of connective tissues and lipofuscin granules. Anti CVA was raised to thus prepared CVA-enriched fractions. Antisera were also raised to synthetic β peptide (1~24) and synthetic carboxyl-terminal peptide (666~695) of β amyloid protein precursor (anti βAPPc).
