Brain ischemia and molecular imaging

生体における分子レベルの異常を画像として描出する分子イメージングの手法は，様々な疾患における早期診断と治療に向けての有力な機能診断法として注目されている。その目的とするところは，分子生物学の進歩に伴って明らかにされつつある成果に基づいて，ヒトで非侵襲的に画像化する技術を導入することによって，新たな機能画像診断の道を探るものである。脳虚血における分子イメージングの役割について，代謝，低酸素環境，レポータ遺伝子システムの視点から明らかにする。分子生物学の手法を画像医学に導入することによって，将来の個別化医療に向けての新しい技術としての発展が期待されている。

Molecular imaging is based on the translation of basic research in molecular biology to clinical practice through medical imaging technology. By combining the modern imaging methods with molecular biology, it is now possible to explore the exciting new field, molecular imaging, toward better understanding, treatment and prevention of the diseases. The concept of molecular imaging in brain ischemia is discussed from the view points of metabolism, hypoxia and reporter gene system. It is expected to play an important role in the future personalized medical care by introduction of basic molecular biology research into medical imaging.
