The occurence of catheter-induced urinary infection following the lower urinary tract operation was studied in 71 cases, in which 32 cases were maintained by "closed drainage system" and the other 39 cases by "open drainage system". In the latter group the periodical bladder irrigation was performed, but in the former group frusemide was given to increase urinary output without the periodical irrigation.

1) The infection rate when removing catheter was 87.5% in the open system. and 20.5% in the closed system. The day exceeding 50% of accumulative infection rate was 3 rd or 4 th in the former, and 9 th or 10 th in the latter.
