330 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), who were encountered in Koriyama, Hirosaki and Hakodate districts in Japan in 1970, were epidemiologically studied.

The greater part (83%) of the patients of HFMD in this research were found in medical practitioner'soffices and less part of the patients in ambulatory clinic of general hospital. There were 186 male pati-ents and 144 female patients. 54% of the patients belonged to age-group of 1 and 2 years, while only 7% of the patients were children of school age (from 6 to 15 years old).

The prevalence of HFMD in these three districts were noticed in May (in Koriyama), June and July (in Hirosaki and Hakodate) in 1970. In several infant-schools in Hirosaki, in which the children from 3 to 5 years old were accomodated, a group of 35 patients (32 children and 3 kindergarteners) were found.
