  • Look Inside

Two rare cases of the foreign body existing inthe tongue are reported.

Case 1 ; A 66-year-old woman, who had bitten the left edge of her tongue, had a pain at the same area. A fish bone of about 2cm length was removed from the area. The foreign body was existing for 2~3 months, presumably, with granulation tissue without symptoms.

Case 2 ; A 18-year-old man had a pain at the left dorsal side of the tongue from biting that area during eating. There was a marked swelling with a big abscess for 2 days. In the abscess a small piece of a decidual teeth broken at child-hood (5 years old) was, detected and removed. The tooth was existing for 13 years without symptoms.

It is said that the sensation of the tongue is sharp and sensitive. But these two cases in-dicated that the inner sensation of the tongue may be less sensitive than the outer, because these foreign bodies were eixsted in the tongue for a long period of time without symptoms.
