We evaluated the sensitivity for corticosteroids in 12 cases of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease using the cell surface ELISA test on lymphocytes. High and low sensitivity was found in 4 and 8 cases each. The findings were then compared to the clinical course in each case after treatment with systemic corticosteroids. The 4 cases with high sensitivity required lesser dosis of corticosteroid than the 8 cases with low sensitivity. The mean duration needed to taper from 30mg prednisolone equivalent per day to discontinuation was shorter in the sensitive than insensitive group. The findings show that the clinical course of VKH disease is dependent on the susceptibility of lymphocytes to corticosteroid in each patient.
