  • Look Inside

We evaluated factors for the complete removal of hyaluronate sodium from the capsular bag after implantation of intraocular lens (IOL) in cadaver eyes. Following surgical techniques were used: three sizes of continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC) (4,5 and 6mm), two sizes of IOL optics (5 and 6mm), three irrigation/aspiration (I/A) techniques and two vacuum levels (125 and 250 mmHg). The I/A technique directly influenced the case and completeness of removal of hyaluronate. Also, manipulating the I/A tip along and not behind the edge of IOL optic led to safe and most effective removal. Shortest removal time and lowest complication rate could be achieved by using 5mm CCC, 5mm IOL optic and vacuum level of 125 mmHg.
