  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We evaluated the accommodation in 34 cases of infantile esotropia. Three cases, 9%, were judged as fully accommodative, 13, 38%, were partially accommodative, 16, 47%, were nonaccommodative. Accommodative factor developed after surgery in 2, 6%. Infantile esotropia was thus associated with impaired accommodation in 53% in the present series. The minimum refractive error in the partially accommodative cases was +1.5 diopters when judged by the circle of least confusion. We recommend examination of eye positions under full correction whenever hypermetropia greater than +1.5 diopters is detected.
