Abstract Objective:To investigate the early therapeutic effects of intravitreal faricimab injection(IVF)for neovascular age-related macular degeneration(nAMD).

Methods:The study included 26 untreated nAMD patients(29 eyes)who started IVF between June 2022 and May 2023 at the Ophthalmology Department of Osaka Metropolitan University. A total of 22 men(25 eyes)and four women(four eyes)with an average age of 71.2 years(range, 51-90 years)were included. All subjects received three monthly IVF treatments. The study evaluated changes in best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA), central macular thickness(CMT), central choroidal thickness(CCT), and dry macula rate up to 3 months post-treatment. Visual acuity was analyzed by converting decimal acuity to logMAR.

Results:The average BCVA changed insignificantly from 0.28±0.37 μm pre-treatment to 0.27±0.35 μm at 3 months post-treatment(p=0.37). The average CMT decreased significantly from 281.1±137.0 μm pre-treatment to 170.8±74.7 μm post-treatment, while the average CCT decreased from 247.0±101.2 μm to 223.7±91.2 μm(p<0.001, p<0.05). The dry macula rate increased from 37.9% after 1 month to 62.1% after 2 months and 82.8% after 3 months.

Conclusion:IVF demonstrated short-term anatomical improvements in untreated nAMD, despite no significant change in visual acuity.
